We can return to our original wholeness, and learn much about how to love and help others, by learning to bless all that is in us--especially aspects we have rejected as unacceptable--and receive the blessings that are given to us. Blessing, literally "to speak well of" or "to say good things about" in Latin, bene-dicere, points to the power we have in how we think of ourselves and how we find and see the good in ourselves, even when things seem wrong, ugly, or otherwise unlovable. We will explore in particular how to befriend self-judgment and how to liberate discernment from the aversion that surrounds it. Our practice will include both the usual presence with the breath and the body as well as a modified version of lovingkindness meditation, holding aspects of ourselves in our hearts with good-will. 30 minutes of each class will be devoted to guided meditation, and the remaining hour will consist of teaching and dialog. Students will benefit most who establish a daily practice during the class.
